BIOCIDE SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS

Biocide testing and analysis to support better onsite decision making

BIOCIDE SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS

For biocide evaluations, there is no hard and fast guide available to help accurately predict which biocide(s) to select to ensure continuous, effective microbiological control. Effective biocide programmes are often based on testing and analysis to support better decision making.

There are a large number of ways to test biocide sensitivity and effectiveness. Our laboratory tests have been especially developed to mimic the conditions of a system on site.

Biocide Sensitivity Analysis

By carrying out biocide sensitivity analysis on actual system water, we are able to give customers guidance on which biocides are likely to be the most effective in their problematic systems. Parameters include but are not limited to:

  • pH
  • Redox potential
  • Polymer dispersion
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)

Considerations to be included:

  • Existing corrosion, deposits and other reported problems in the system to be treated
  • The results of previous microbiological analysis carried out
  • Counts – TVCs, SRB’s, biofilms etc
  • Temperature and pH (Closed Systems)
  • Previous and current biocide programme, dosing etc
  • Retention time and water velocity (Open Systems)
  • Cooling system pH, chlorides, TDS or other pertinent analytical parameters including process containment load or cooling system nutrients
  • The compatibility and possible effects on chemical inhibitors or other chemicals present in the system
  • Cost comparisons or proposed biocide treatments
  • Environmental, handling and safety considerations
